Podiatry for High Foot Arches

High arched feet (Pes Cavus) can cause as many problems as a flat foot. This foot tends to hit the ground hard, and as the arch does not relax and roll down it develops shock-absorption and impact as it is too rigid.

High foot arches can cause issues such as:

  • Chronic ankle instability and sprains
  • Peroneal tendonitis (these insert on the outside of the foot and become painful)
  • Balance problems
  • Ankle pain
  • Knee pain
  • Back pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
Flat feet

If you have high arches, you could benefit from neutral footwear and orthotics. These provide additional foot and arch support and help reduce ground impact forces, pressure areas and rebalancing the foot and leg.

Assessing high foot arches

An assessment by a professional podiatrist will determine whether you will benefit any of the following:

  • New footwear – ensure your shoes have good cushioning and arch support
  • Heel or forefoot cushioning such as silicone or felt pads to relieve the pressure off painful areas
  • Controlling your body weight to decrease the load on your feet
  • FMT Treat joint range with foot and ankle joint manipulations to get your foot to roll in more
  • Recommend orthotic devices to provide support for stressed joints and soft tissues.
