Flat Feet Treatment

Flat feet (Pes Planus) is a term used to describe excessive ‘rolling in’ or pronation of the feet either while standing or in motion. ‘Rolling in’ is a normal function of the foot as it allows us to absorb shock and walk on uneven terrain. However, too much of this can cause problems in the long-term.

Flat feet cause a myriad of problems, such as:

  • Arch and heel pain like Plantar fasciitis
  • Ankle Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Big toe problems such as arthritis, bunions and capsulitis
  • Neuromas in the forefoot

Treatment for flat feet

First, we’ll assess your feet to determine the extent of the injury and look at ways to provide short and long term relief for your symptoms. We always consider the cause of the flat feet and the subsequent effects on the body.

Sometimes, we’ll use x-rays and ultrasound to get an accurate diagnosis. Treatment may involve strengthening exercises, stretching, orthotics, supportive footwear and massage.
